Lesson 10: Mock Test 1 + Self-Scoring

Phase 1Mock test
The one win

an honest baseline band across all four criteria after your foundation phase.

How to run this mock (timed, recorded)

Do this in one sitting, recording the whole thing on your phone. Don't stop, don't restart, don't look anything up — simulate the real test. Total speaking time ~11–14 minutes. Transcribe afterwards.

Tip: read each question aloud (or have someone ask you), then answer immediately.

Part 1 (4–5 min) — answer in 2–3 sentences each

  1. Let's talk about your home. Do you live in a house or an apartment?
  2. What's your favourite room and why?
  3. Do you work or study at the moment?
  4. What do you usually do in the mornings?
  5. How do you spend your free time?
  6. Do you prefer cooking at home or eating out?
  7. What's the weather like in your hometown?
  8. How often do you use social media?
  9. Has the way you keep in touch with friends changed?
  10. Do you prefer mornings or evenings?

Part 2 (3–4 min) — cue card (1 min prep, then talk for 2 minutes)

Describe a daily routine that you enjoy. You should say:

  • what the routine is
  • when and where you do it
  • who you do it with (if anyone)
  • and explain why you enjoy it.

(Make 4–5 keyword notes in your 1-minute prep — not full sentences.)

Part 3 (4–5 min) — discussion, develop each answer

  1. Why do you think routines are important for some people?
  2. Do you think people are busier now than in the past? Why?
  3. How has technology changed people's daily routines?
  4. Do you think children should have a strict daily schedule?
  5. Are weekends as relaxing as they used to be?
  6. How might daily life change in the next 20 years?

Score it

Transcribe your recording, then score each part:

  • Use the Part 1 examiner, Part 2 examiner, and Part 3 examiner prompts (run each part separately).
  • Compare the feedback to so you understand why you got each band.
  • Average the four criteria for an overall band.

Log it

Open → Mock Test Band Log → fill in the Mock 1 row (Fluency / Vocab / Grammar / Pronunciation / Overall). Target for this stage: ~5.5. Don't worry if you're below — this is your baseline.

Reflection checklist

  • I completed all three parts in one recording without stopping.
  • I scored all four criteria with the AI examiner.
  • I logged Mock 1 in the tracker.
  • I identified my lowest criterion — this is your priority for Phase 2.
  • I picked one band-7 rewrite from the feedback and re-recorded it.

Next: Phase 2 builds the Part 2 long turn and your vocabulary engine. Bring your weakest criterion with you.
