Lesson 20: Mock Test 2 + Review

Phase 2Mock test
The one win

confirm your progress since Mock 1 (target ~6.0), especially on Part 2.

How to run this mock (timed, recorded)

One sitting, recorded, no stopping. ~11–14 minutes of speaking. Transcribe afterwards. This time, pay special attention to your Part 2 long turn — that's what Phase 2 trained.

Part 1 (4–5 min) — 2–3 sentences each

  1. Do you enjoy travelling?
  2. What kind of places do you like to visit?
  3. Do you prefer to travel alone or with others?
  4. How do you usually plan a trip?
  5. Did you travel much as a child?
  6. What's your favourite way to relax?
  7. Do you have any hobbies you've taken up recently?
  8. Are you more of an indoor or outdoor person?
  9. Who do you usually spend your free time with?
  10. Is there a skill you'd like to learn?

Part 2 (3–4 min) — cue card (1 min prep, 2 min talk)

Describe a memorable trip or journey you have taken. You should say:

  • where you went and when
  • who you went with
  • what you did there
  • and explain why it was memorable.

(Keyword notes only. Use narrative tenses. Aim for the full 2 minutes.)

Part 3 (4–5 min) — develop each answer

  1. Why do people enjoy travelling to new places?
  2. How has the way people travel changed in recent years?
  3. Do you think tourism benefits local communities? How?
  4. Is it better to travel independently or on organised tours?
  5. Should there be limits on tourism to protect the environment?
  6. How might travel change in the future?

Score it

  • Use the Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 examiner prompts (one per part).
  • Cross-check against

Log it

Open → Mock Test Band Log → fill in Mock 2 (target ~6.0). Compare each criterion to Mock 1 — which improved, which didn't?

Reflection checklist

  • Completed all three parts in one recording.
  • My Part 2 reached ~2 minutes with a clear structure.
  • I scored all four criteria and logged Mock 2.
  • I compared to Mock 1 and noted my best-improving and slowest criterion.
  • I re-recorded my Part 2 using one band-7 upgrade from the feedback.

If a criterion has stalled for two weeks, revisit the matching lesson/BOOST and run the AI examiner focused only on that criterion (see the tracker's Plateau rule).
