Lesson 40: Mock Test 4 + Review
The one win
a near-target performance (~6.5–7.0), with confident Part 3 reasoning and expressive delivery.
How to run this mock (timed, recorded)
One sitting, recorded, no stopping. ~13–14 minutes. This is your "dress rehearsal minus one" — treat it like the real thing. Transcribe afterwards and score honestly.
Part 1 (4–5 min) — 2–3 sentences each
- Do you follow the news?
- How do you usually get your news?
- Do you use social media every day?
- Has technology changed how you spend your free time?
- Do you prefer to talk on the phone or message?
Part 2 (3–4 min) — cue card (1 min prep, 2 min talk)
Describe a piece of technology or an app you find useful. You should say:
- what it is
- how long you've used it
- what you use it for
- and explain why it's useful to you.
Part 3 (5–6 min) — full, opinion-led answers
- How has technology changed the way people communicate? (cause/effect)
- Do you think artificial intelligence will benefit society? (speculate + report)
- Should there be limits on how much children use technology? (modals)
- Does social media bring people together or push them apart? (balance + cleft)
- Whose responsibility is it to keep people safe online — companies or governments? (signpost ladder)
- Will face-to-face communication disappear in the future? (future forms)
Score it
- Use the Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 examiner prompts.
- For Part 3, ask the examiner to grade each criterion AND tell you whether your answers used: contrast (whereas), cause/effect, speculation, modals, and emphasis.
- Cross-check against
Log it
Open → Mock Test Band Log → fill Mock 4 (target ~6.5–7.0). Compare all four criteria across Mocks 1–4 and note the trend.
Reflection checklist
- Completed all three parts in one recording.
- My Part 3 answers used at least 3 of: contrast, cause/effect, speculation, modals, emphasis.
- My delivery had varied stress/intonation (not flat).
- I scored and logged Mock 4.
- I listed my single weakest criterion to target in Phase 4.
Next: Phase 4 is polish and exam temperament — fixing your specific error patterns, drilling pronunciation, and three more full mocks under real conditions.
