Lesson 50: Mock Test 5 (Final) + Readiness
The one win
a final, exam-condition performance at your target band (~7.0) and a clear go/no-go readiness verdict.
How to run this mock (full exam conditions)
Treat this exactly like the real test: stand or sit as you will on the day, record, no stopping, no notes (except Part 2 prep), do your pre-exam breathing routine first (Lesson 48). ~13–14 minutes. Transcribe and score honestly afterwards.
Part 1 (4–5 min) — 2–3 sentences each
- Let's talk about where you live. Do you like your neighbourhood?
- What do you usually do at the weekend?
- Do you prefer spending time indoors or outdoors?
- How important is music in your life?
- Do you think you'll live in the same place in the future?
Part 2 (3–4 min) — cue card (1 min prep, 2 min talk)
Describe a goal or ambition you have for the future. You should say:
- what the goal is
- how you plan to achieve it
- how long it might take
- and explain why it's important to you.
Part 3 (5–6 min) — full, opinion-led answers
- Why is it important for people to set goals? (opinion + develop)
- Are young people today more ambitious than in the past? (compare past/present)
- How does society influence the goals people set? (cause/effect)
- Do you think everyone can achieve their dreams with hard work? (hypothesise/hedge)
- Should schools do more to help students plan their futures? (modals)
- How might people's career goals change over the next few decades? (speculate)
Score it
- Use all three examiner prompts.
- Ask each for a band per criterion and a one-line justification against
- Average the four for your overall band.
Log it & compare
Open → Mock Test Band Log → fill Mock 5. Plot all five mocks side by side. You're looking for an upward trend to ~7.0 across all four criteria.
Readiness verdict (go / not-yet)
- Ready (book/sit the test): all four criteria at 6.5–7.0+, you complete all parts without freezing, and your top-5 errors (Lesson 41) are now rare.
- Not yet (give it 1–3 more weeks): one criterion is stuck at 6.0 or below, or you still freeze under pressure. → Re-run the BOOST + pronunciation lessons for that criterion, redo Lesson 41's audit, and re-test in two weeks.
Final checklist
- I completed a full exam-condition simulation.
- I scored and logged Mock 5 and compared all five mocks.
- All four criteria are at or near 7.0 (or I have a clear plan for the lagging one).
- My top-5 errors are now rare.
- I've decided: ready to test or two more weeks.
Whatever the verdict: you now have a complete method — diagnose, drill the four criteria, get AI feedback, and re-test. Keep cycling it until every criterion sits at 7.0. You've got this.
